Interior Alaska experienced all kinds of winter weather the past few days — deep cold, deep snow, and more deep cold.

The snowstorm on Friday even broke a daily snowfall record, with 10.9 inches of snow recorded on Dec. 12. The previous record was 9.5 inches, set on Dec. 12, 2012.

Even National Weather Service meteorologist Sonya Lewis noted that driving into downtown Fairbanks for work on Friday was challenging, due to snow falling and wind blowing.

It warmed up close to zero on Friday, but temperatures plummeted again on Saturday and are expected to stay there.

“We are kind of expecting it,” said Lewis. “Right now, we only have about 20 below, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it does go lower, especially if it stays clear.”

Clouds could move in mid-week, but that’s only a possibility.
