JENNINGS, La. (KPLC) - Rows of headstones at the Southwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery are decorated with wreaths, a symbol of remembrance for those who served and sacrificed for the nation.

Family members and volunteers gathered to place the wreaths, pausing at each grave to say the veteran’s name aloud to ensure their stories and service are not forgotten.

“It brings you back to remembering your dad, seeing him in the uniform and all the things he taught you about your country and why you do this,” said Ann Italio Vincent.

Vincent’s father, who died nearly three years ago, is buried at the cemetery. She was among the many who took part in the wreath-laying to honor fallen heroes.
