Few anime bear a legacy that looms over much of the medium despite having multiple flawed releases, but the latest Fist of the North Star remake might already be dead. The iconic Buronson & Tetsuo Hara manga is among Weekly Shonen Jump's greatest and goriest. While this latest project delivers on the latter, its animation raises red flags.

The choice of incorporating CGI, or 3D CG in anime, is a contentious topic, with polarizing, stylized uses like Trigun Stampede, and low-effort abominations like Berserk (2016) . While Fist of the North Star doesn't appear to bear Berserk's Brand of Sacrifice just yet, it seems especially troubling for a martial arts anime to cut corners on animation, of all things.
