The phrase, “Go west, young man, go west” is attributed to an American newspaper editor, Horace Greeley, who saw the west as a land of opportunity in the 1800s. He advised young men to get out of Washington where the rents were too high, the air was foul, the dust was dreadful and the morals were deplorable.
