Despite strict security at sensitive border areas, illegal drug trafficking into Assam persists. In two separate operations on Saturday, Karbi Anglong Police seized 14.14 kg of opium, valued at over Rs. 84 lakh, and arrested two peddlers.
In another operation, 319,000 pieces of Burmese cigarettes worth Rs. 30 lakh were recovered, with two more peddlers arrested.
Police seized the opium after intercepting a truck traveling from Manipur to Bokajan in Assam. A thorough search revealed the drugs hidden inside the truck’s air cylinder. Both the driver and co-driver were arrested and necessary legal action has been initiated against them.
