The Sarnia Sting continued their mastery of the Flint Firebirds Saturday with a 3-2 overtime win against the No. 10-ranked team in the Canadian Hockey League.
The Firebirds are first and the Sting are last in the Ontario Hockey League’s Western Conference, but the Sting own a 4-0 lead in the season series.
Ben Pickell’s goal 1:14 into overtime before 3,227 fans at the Dort Financial Center lifted the visiting Sting to their second straight win, matching their season high.
The Sting (9-17-3-1) are four points behind the eighth-place Erie Otters for the conference’s final playoff berth. The Firebirds (22-7-2-2) are second overall in the OHL.
Pickell snapped his seven-game scoring drought by snapping a backhander over the glove of netminder Mason Courville, who was missing his stick.
