Sarah Robert-Smith and other tenants in the Sunnydale townhouses are waiting and worrying.
The Landlord and Tenant Board held a hearing Monday for units 519 to 529 Sunnydale Pl., where Robert-Smith and others spoke against a proposed six per cent increase in rents the Toronto-based owners want to impose on the low-and-modest income families. If allowed, the rent increase would be retroactive for two years.
Robert-Smith’s doctor wrote a letter, which said the married mother of three children suffers from chronic asthma that is made worse by leaks and mould in her unit. The landlord’s lawyer objected to entering the doctor’s letter as evidence and said the doctor had never visited the townhouse. The adjudicator agreed.
