The lighting of the menorah during Chanukah each year symbolizes for Jewish people finding light in darkness, and then continuing to spread that light beyond themselves. Chanukah is deeply rooted in spirituality and meaningful, yet complex, messages that may be difficult to grasp for some children of Jewish faith.

Rabbis and educators in Jewish communities help find ways to translate the essence of Chanukah into a language young people can understand. Sarah Alevsky, director of the Cleveland Kosher Food Pantry, and Rabbi Chayim Alevsky, who, with Sarah, handles the Living Legacy Mitzvah Workshops among others in affiliation with Chabad of Cleveland, work directly with Cleveland’s Jewish youth to connect them with their roots.
