El Paso amateur boxer Moises Rodriguez finished second in the 121-pound division of the Elite Male Division at the USA Boxing National Championships on Saturday, Dec. 13, in Lubbock.

Rodriguez lost via unanimous decision to Hawaii's Lorenzo Juanito Patricio. Three judges scored the fight 29-28 and two judges scored the fight 30-27.

Still, it was a successful week for Rodriguez, who won four fights. He defeated Maximilano Aguila, Saul Soto and Zahheir Fox by an unanimous decision score of 5-0 and Orlando Zamora by a split decision score of 3-2.

"It was a good week, I learned a great deal," said the 18-year-old Rodriguez, who is an El Dorado High School graduate. "This was my first time fighting in the Elite level division. The fights were all tough, I feel like I grew as a fighter."
