Hanks High School senior Ashlyn McMillan has verbally committed to run cross country and track for UTEP beginning with the 2026-27 school year.

McMillan had a tremendous senior season in cross country, winning the District 2-5A title, qualifying for regionals and qualifying for the Class 5A state cross country meet for the first time in her career.

McMillan made the announcement on Friday. McMillan said UTEP coach Justin Herbert first contact her during the cross country regular season to begin the recruiting process.

"It was a great cross country season," McMillan said. "I had so much support from family, teammates and coaches and they all helped me reach my goal of making state. Having the success I did really me grow as a runner."
