A six-year-old girl is dead and an adult in critical condition after a fire on the city's west side, according to the Detroit Fire Department.
The department was notified of a house fire on the 12000 block of Rutherford Street, near Greenfield Road early Sunday, just before 6 a.m. The Detroit Fire Department is still investigating the cause of the fire.
As crews worked to extinguish the blaze, they found a six-year-old girl who had not survived the fire. An adult woman and four-year-old boy were transported to Sinai-Grace Hospital. The woman is in critical condition, while the four-year-old is recovering from smoke inhalation.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and our crew members as they deal with this tragedy," said Detroit Fire Department Senior Chief Leo Spitzig.
