LOS ANGELES – A judge has dismissed a lawsuit against the Los Angeles Unified School District on behalf of a girl who alleged she was groomed and sexually molested off-campus starting at age 15 by a volunteer assistant girls’ basketball coach at the Westchester Enriched Sciences Magnets school.

The Los Angeles Superior Court lawsuit brought in February 2024 by a plaintiff identified only as Jane LDK Doe stated that the coach, Juan Colon, had two prior non-sex-related convictions before being hired and that the teen’s family did not learn until a month before the suit was filed that Colon had allegedly molested their child.

Judge Michael Shultz heard arguments on the LAUSD’s dismissal motion last Tuesday, took the case under submission and granted the motion on Thursday.
