DALLAS — The 89th Texas Legislature adjourned Monday after a session that will likely be remembered for major changes to education.
A total of 1,212 bills were passed during the 140-day session. And the final hours of this one were tame compared to the previous two.
In 2021, House Democrats broke quorum and fled the state to try to kill a bill on voting restrictions. The bill eventually passed.
The waning days of 2023 included an impeachment of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and fighting between the chambers over property tax reform, school funding and school vouchers.
Four special sessions followed.
Paxton was acquitted during a trial in the Senate .
Neither school funding nor vouchers passed.
