WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — The city of Warwick Wednesday announced a deal with camera manufacturer Altumint for the placement of traffic cameras at five city intersections.
Wednesday begins a 30-day grace period for drivers, who will receive warnings for traffic violations caught by the cameras.
A month from now, drivers will receive $85 tickets for the violations.
Warwick police and city officials said the move was necessary to make the city safer, with hundreds of drivers caught running red lights in only a day at some intersections.
In addition to the red light cameras, Altumint will be installing school zone speed cameras at 11 different schools in the city.
Those will be active by August 28, the first day of school in Warwick.
