Syracuse, N.Y. — City officials said it was “premature” for management at the shuttered Westcott Theater to announce Wednesday that this weekend’s events would proceed as planned.
Code enforcement officials used their emergency powers on Tuesday to order the theater closed until management corrects code violations and obtains proper entertainment licenses.
They said in a letter to management that unlicensed concerts at the theater “present an immediate danger to the health, safety or welfare to the occupants of the Property and to the general public.”
Jake Dishaw, the deputy commissioner for code enforcement and zoning administration, said it is possible that the theater could reopen as soon as Thursday night.
He said the theater needs to pass a fire inspection scheduled for Thursday
