An influential aide to President Donald Trump might be the cause of his feud with Elon Musk to “settle a score,” according to a report from Axios.
The squabble really heated up last weekend, “shortly after Trump unexpectedly withdrew Musk's pick, Jared Isaacman, to lead NASA,” the outlet said.
The move sent Musk to his social media outlet, X, raging at the decision. Axios reports that many Trump advisers were “stunned” and pointed the finger at White House aide Sergio Gor for the fractured friendship.
Trump claimed Isaacman’s nomination was withdrawn because he contributed to Democrats in the 2024 elections. However, the outlet reports, “Trump had been made aware of Isaacman's donations months ago and said nothing.”
“Senate Republicans also blamed Gor for helping undermine the NASA nomination to settle a score with Musk,” Axios wrote, adding, “Musk had been critical of Gor's management of the White House personnel office.”
Musk and Gor’s poor relationship was exposed during a Cabinet meeting in March.
Multiple senior officials for the Trump administration told Axios that it was a “conspicuous absence” that Gor was not mentioned in a New York Times report about the meeting.
Instead, the gray lady focused their piece on the friction between Musk and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
"Sergio let it be known he didn't like Musk's attitude ... and he didn't like getting called out [by Musk] in front of the Cabinet," one White House official who attended the meeting told Axios.
“Gor has told others he wasn't responsible [for Isaacman’s removal], and that GOP senators were,” Axios said.
The outlet claims the GOP Senate offices they reached out to claimed “they didn't know of any senators or staffers who opposed Isaacman.”
Gor declined to comment to Axios for the story. The outlet said “one senior White House official called Axios on Gor's behalf to praise his ‘brilliance, hard work and dedication.’"
