SHREVEPORT, La. – A bill to limit the use of speed enforcement cameras to school zones only is awaiting Gov. Jeff Landry’s signature to become law.
Senate Bill 99, authored by Sen. Stewart Cathey, originally set out to ban the use of electronic cameras statewide. But the bill was amended to ban them everywhere except school zones.
State Sen. Sam Jenkins (D-Shreveport) supports the measure as a protection for school children. He expects Landry to sign it.
Included in the proposed law:
Each citation must include a self-addressed stamped envelope, a QR code or other internet link to a portal that provides vehicle owners access to video of the alleged violation – all without a fee.
Failure to pay the fine will not be reported to a credit bureau.
