OAKDALE, La. (KPLC) - Major cuts to the City of Oakdale’s budget are on the horizon. That’s because a tax measure was not renewed, but not as a result of being put before the voters.

At Thursday’s city council meeting, Mayor David Vidrine said just over one-third of the city’s revenue is gone.

“There was 34.57% revenue lost,” says Vidrine.

7NEWS spoke with several city officials who said they were unclear on when the tax should have been renewed. They all claimed the problem dates back to the prior administration.

According to the state revenue department , Oakdale’s sales tax dropped from 6% in December 2024, to 4.7% this January.

The city’s audit last year showed two sales and use taxes, a 1% tax, and a 0.3% tax, which made about $1.6 million in the last fiscal year.
