Several witnesses called 911 after seeing a man beating and dragging a dog near a mobile home park in northern Macomb County, according to Michigan State Police.

The incident took place about 9:30 a.m. Sunday in the 12000 block of St. Michel Avenue in Springbrook Estates off the M-53 freeway north of 33 Mile Road in Bruce Township.

Numerous people called 911 to report they saw a man hurting the dog close to the mobile home community, police said in a news release.

Police found the dog and male suspect described as a white, 31-year-old man from Bruce Township on St. Michel Avenue.

“A traffic stop was conducted to take the suspect into custody,” police said in the release. “The suspect became combative and was arrested and handcuffed without injury.”
