Four Al Jazeera journalists have been killed in an Israeli strike in Gaza City, the broadcaster has said, including correspondent Anas al-Sharif, who had recently been warned his life was in danger.

Israel’s military confirmed the strikes and said it had targeted and killed a Hamas cell leader posing as an Al Jazeera journalist.

It claimed al-Sharif “was responsible for advancing rocket attacks against Israeli civilians and IDF (Israeli) troops,” citing intelligence and documents found in Gaza as evidence.

Just minutes before he was killed al-Sharif wrote on X : “Breaking: Intense, concentrated Israeli bombardment using ‘fire belts’ is hitting the eastern and southern areas of Gaza City.”

The other journalists killed were Mohammed Qreiqeh, Ibrahim Zaher and Mohammed Noufal, Al Jaze
