Newark Public Library Executive Director Christian Zabriskie was given his pink slip on Friday, without explanation from the Library Board of Trustees or comment from the director.

The Library Board of Trustees voted 5-3 to provide Zabriskie with a 90-day notice of termination, effective Nov. 6, and immediately place him on paid administrative leave during its Friday, Aug. 8 special meeting. During his administrative leave, he will not take any official action on behalf of the library.

Trustee President Aisha Cooper, Trustee Vice President Rosemary Steinbaum, Trustee Treasurer Jason Ballard, and trustees Robert J. Austin II and Miguel Rodriguez voted in favor of Zabriskie’s termination. Trustee Secretary Havier Nazario, and trustees Lauren Wells and Sharnee Brown abstained from the vote
