CAMDEN – Despite angry protests from city residents and community activists, City Council members on Tuesday evening unanimously approved an agreement with EMR (USA Holdings) Inc.
Heavy smoke from a fire at EMR’s scrapyard, sparked by a damaged lithium-ion battery, in February sent residents fleeing from their neighborhood because of poor air quality.
A memorandum of understanding written in the fire’s aftermath and after meetings with concerned residents requires EMR to donate $3,250,000 to benefit city residents, donate a small fire truck to the city and spend millions to reconfigure its scrap operations at Ferry and Atlantic Streets.
