Monticello Area Community Action Agency was unsuccessful in starting its elementary after-school program on the first day of school this year, but Interim Executive Director John Edwards said the organization has a plan moving forward.

Edwards said the program was primarily held up because MACAA had to provide references from members of its board of directors, and two individuals were coming from outside of Virginia.

“That kind of slowed down the process for us being able to operate and start the program on day one of the school year,” he said.

Edwards said MACAA has submitted its application to become licensed through the Virginia Department of Education (DOE), and the process moving forward should be quick, although he can’t offer specific dates.
