VANCOUVER Wash. (KPTV) - As classified employees at Evergreen Public Schools are still on strike in Vancouver, the district said on Sunday that the school year start date would be postponed, but meal service would begin Tuesday.
On Aug. 26, members of the Evergreen Chapter of Public School Employees of Washington SEIU Local 1948 (PSE) went on strike for the first time in the union’s history, after 92% of members voted in favor following failed contract negotiations with the district. According to PSE, the strike follows five months of bargaining.
Previously, the district announced it would delay the start of the 2025–26 school year by one week, with classes now scheduled to begin Tuesday, Sept. 2.
