Friday and Tuesday: Rumble Fish at AFI Silver

The past year has seen director Francis Ford Coppola in the news and generating viral social media clips with his 2024 passion project Megalopolis. Thus, it’s a great time for D.C.-area moviegoers to revisit a previous Coppola passion project: 1983’s Rumble Fish. Based on a 1975 S.E. Hinton novel, Rumble Fish has a similar cast of characters and ideas to The Outsiders, a favorite of many middle school English classes. Indeed, it was filmed immediately after Coppola completed The Outsiders, and the movies are focused on the same topic: dissolute young men and women from lower-class backgrounds.
