VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A Virginia Beach-based Navy pilot was rescued from waters off the Virginia coast on Wednesday after ejecting from a fighter jet, according to the Navy.
The pilot was flying a F/A-18E Super Hornet just before 10 a.m., said Lt. Jackie Parashar with Naval Air Force Atlantic.
Officials say the pilot was conducting a routine training flight when they ejected and the plane crashed into the water. At this time, there is no information on what caused the crash.
The Navy said the pilot was assigned to Strike Fighter Squadron 83, which is based at Naval Air Station Oceana in Virginia Beach.
The pilot was located and rescued at 11:21 a.m. Dale Gauding with Sentara confirmed that the pilot was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
