A teenager jailed over plans to massacre worshippers at a Muslim centre in Inverclyde was caught with weapons in his rucksack.

In mid-December 2024, the 17-year-old boy, 'inspired' by the likes of Adolf Hitler, planned to set fire to the Greenock centre after being radicalised online, before befriending the mosque's Imam and mapping out the building’s interior layout on his phone.

The teen, who cannot be named due to his age, was sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow today, August 21, after pleading guilty to two charges of terrorism. He received a total of 10 years detention and eight years extended licence period.

The attack on the Inverclyde Muslim Centre in Greenock involved the use of aerosols and lighters to set fire to the premises.
