A warning has been issued following a deadly season in Spain, where scorching temperatures exceeding 45C resulted in multiple heat-related fatalities. Tourist hotspots experienced unprecedented death rates.

According to Marca.com, a series of heatwaves led to a concerning rise in deaths, with August alone witnessing 2,177 heat-related fatalities. In comparison, the same period in 2024 saw 1,271 people lose their lives due to the heat.

The most affected age group was those over 65, with 2,099 deaths, including 1,428 elderly individuals over 85. Women were also disproportionately impacted, with 1,300 deaths compared to 877 men.
