One person has been taken to hospital after five fire crews mounted a rescue operation following a crash on the M8 through Glasgow .

The casualty was blue-lighted to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital after being recovered from the van, which according to an eyewitness was "crushed at the front".

Traffic remains heavy on the M8 heading eastbound in Glasgow following the earlier collision. It happened at around 2.22pm this afternoon (Wednesday, September 3) near Junction 22.

The same eyewitness told Glasgow Live the vehicle involved had crashed into the central reservation barriers, blocking lane one on the main M8 carriageway and lanes three and four on the M8 secondary carriageway heading towards the M74.
