Dallas' former police chief is now the top cop in Fort Worth. "The 28th police chief for the Fort Worth Police Department will be Eddie Garcia ," Fort Worth City Manager Jesus “Jay” Chapa announced via a news release Thursday afternoon.

Garcia was among four finalists who made the city's short list .

The Fort Worth police chief position became vacant after former Chief Neil Noakes announced his retirement in December 2024 and officially stepped down in May 2025.

Garcia led the Dallas Police Department from February 2021 until his sudden departure in October 2024. In November 2024, he relocated to Austin to oversee public safety as the Assistant City Manager.
