ALEXANDRIA, VA – The Alexandria Health Department (AHD) has issued a rabies alert after a fox in the Del Ray/Rosemont neighborhood tested positive for the disease.
On August 19, the fox came into contact with a cat near a home in the area. The animal was later confirmed to have rabies and has since died. AHD is working with the cat’s owner on safe next steps. While the situation is contained, officials warn there is now an increased risk of rabies exposure in the community.
