Plans for a new Swig soda shop in Phoenix were halted this month when the Phoenix Board of Adjustment denied a use permit to allow for a drive-thru restaurant.

The property of the proposed drive-thru soda shop, at 535 W. Bethany Home Road, is zoned for commercial use but had a single-family residence on it until last year when it was demolished. The 0.37-acre parcel sits between a gas station at the southeast corner of Seventh Avenue and Bethany Home Road and other single-family houses to the east and south.
