PROVIDENCE – How much, if anything, should Rhode Island's public officials, including its $20,391.97-a-year part-time lawmakers, be allowed to accept in "gifts"?

Is the current $25 per gift cap and a cumulative $75 annually from any one "interested person" too low, considering it doesn't even cover a cup of chowder, a Caesar salad and a sliced tenderloin steak plate with rosemary fries at The Capital Grille – a favored spot for local politicos?
