A small child was swept into a drainage system in Sarasota and was carried through the drain 100 yards on Sunday afternoon, according to authorities.

The incident took place at 5433 Bahia Vista Street around 6:15 p.m. after a water main break, WFLA reported , citing the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office and the Sarasota County Fire Department.

The child was playing near a culvert when they were pulled into the drainage system due to the strong water flow.

The fire department responded to the scene and took the child to the Sarasota Memorial Hospital.

The child’s condition has not been revealed.

Streets were closed in the area.
