WHITELAND, Ind. — A man accused of leading police on a chase in Johnson County that ended in a a motorcycle crash last year has agreed to a plea deal.
Under the terms of the plea deal, Dustin Ammerman would serve one year of probation, in addition to the one day he previously spent in jail, on charges of reckless driving causing serious bodily injury (his own injuries) and marijuana possession.
Prosecutors said the sentence comes as Ammerman has been permanently disabled by the injuries from the crash.
The incident happened the evening of Nov. 4, 2024. A Whiteland police officer was sitting in the department headquarters writing reports when he heard a loud motorcycle racing through town. The officer went to his squad car and pursued the motorcycle eastbound on Whiteland Road.
