The federal prosecution of the ex-director of the Killeen Housing Authority who admitted to embezzlement appeared to be hurtling toward a conclusion with a punishment hearing set for Wednesday. However, since a judge recently approved another motion to continue, the defendant, Deadra Johnson, is set to be sentenced in November rather than this week.
Johnson is facing 10 years in prison after pleading guilty on Feb. 11 to one count of theft of government property. The court set an initial date of June 25, for sentencing, which later was moved to Aug. 27 due to a motion to continue from the U.S. government. Then, on Aug. 21, Johnson’s defense attorney filed his own motion to continue.
In his motion, Assistant Federal Public Defender Kurt May said that the request for more time was not cont
