The Killeen Police Department finished runner-up in the 2025 CopTech Forum-Axon Agency of the Year for Innovation in Police Award, city officials announced Monday.

This is due to KPD’s Real Time Crime Center, which uses data from a wide variety of sources including live camera feeds.

“Our commitment to leveraging technology in policing has always been about improving the safety and well-being of the community we serve,” Killeen Chief of Police Pete Lopez Jr. said in a statement. “This recognition reflects the hard work and dedication of our officers and staff, who continually strive to utilize new technologies to better serve Killeen residents.”

As recently as Saturday, KPD used the Real Time Crime Center to identify suspects in a robbery. One suspect was apprehended.
