VIENNA, Va. — Nearly a year after proposing a meals tax increase, the Vienna Town Council approved the measure that may be used to fund a new indoor fitness and aquatic center.
In a meeting on Monday evening, the Vienna Town Council voted in favor of a one percent increase to the town's meals tax. The increase will take effect on Jan. 1, 2026.
The increase will bring Vienna's meals tax to 4%, similar to Fairfax County's meals tax. The measure passed after the town council had postponed the vote multiple times.
The current 3% meals tax helps pay for street and park maintenance, as well as facility improvements. The increase may also help pay for a community aquatics and fitness center on the former Annex property on Center Street. That facility could open in 2030.
