Police and EMTs responded to Howe Terrace, at the end of Howe Street, off Hancock Street in Dorchester this evening after a dog bit a woman repeatedly around 6:50 p.m.

EMTs were initially unable to get to the woman, who suffered multiple dog bits to her arms and legs, until a police officer shot the dog at least twice. They then got her ready for transport to a local emergency room.

A second ambulance was called in to take at least two officers to a local hospital for observation; standard procedure whenever an officer fires a gun.
