The construction firms Rhode Island turned to for advice, after its first attempt to commission a new westbound Washington Bridge failed , told the state it had set an impossible timeline that prioritized speed over quality and lacked clear parameters for the job.

The responses from 11 organizations, which the Department of Transportation released in response to an Access to Public Records Request, paint Gov. Dan McKee's hopes of building a new bridge by September of 2026 as fanciful.
