DUBUQUE, Iowa (KWWL)-- The Dubuque Police Department is working to fill more open officer positions through a newly approved policy change by the City Council.

The department can now conduct its own initial testing for applicants. Previously, candidates had to undergo testing through the Civil Service Commission, which was available only quarterly.

Like many other departments across the state, Dubuque has faced hiring challenges in recent years, according to Lt. Luke Bock. Leaders hope this adjustment will help train and deploy officers in the community more efficiently. "The goal is to get more officers hired and trained and out on the street," said Bock.
