DETROIT (WGHP) — Former Dudley High School star and Greensboro native quarterback Hendon Hooker was released by the Detroit Lions on Monday.

Earlier in the week, Lions head coach Dan Campbell suggested that Hooker may "need a change of scenery," during a press conference.

Hooker struggled during the 2025 preseason, completing only 55% of his passes for 187 yards, 0 touchdowns and 3 interceptions.

The Lions will now turn to former Carolina Panthers quarterback Kyle Allen to be the backup heading into the season.

Hooker is entering his third season in the NFL after being selected by Detroit in the Third Round of the 2023 NFL Draft.
