HOUSTON (KIAH) — As lawmakers debate a bill to replace the STAAR test with three smaller tests throughout the year, Texas students are being asked to share their experiences.
This comes as lawmakers on both sides of the aisle agree — the STAAR test needs to go. But the bill advanced the Texas House Committee on Public Education with a single 'no' vote from Representative Gina Hinojosa from Austin.
Yesterday, she was joined by students at the capitol who say they want a different approach than what's currently in the House bill.
"Our kids do not want more testing. Our parents do not want more testing for our kids. Our message to Governor Abbott and Mike Morath is: leave our kids alone," Hinojosa said.
