FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - A 17-year-old boy pleaded guilty Tuesday to a lesser charge in a robbery-turned-homicide from March of this year.

Corey Conley Jr. pleaded guilty to assisting a criminal, a Level 5 felony, in connection to a fatal shooting March 20 on Pennsylvania Street, east of downtown Fort Wayne.

If the judge at Conley's sentencing accepts the plea deal, murder and robbery charges – which could’ve landed him in prison for up to 71 years – would be dismissed.

Conley and Jaiden Michael Landis – both students at Snider High School – were allegedly in a car with the victim, 16-year-old Chase Watson, and a fourth unidentified person when what started as stealing a gun escalated into multiple gunshots ringing out.
