FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) -- Thursday, a man from Mexico was sentenced to 19 years in prison after pleading guilty of multiple drug charges.

24-year-old Heriberto Martinez Contreras of Mexico pleaded guilty to possession of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.

Contreras received his sentence of 228 months, or 19 years, followed by 5 years of supervised release from the Department of Justice.

The charges stem from an incident in October of 2024, where police conducted traffic stops on two separate vehicles for traffic violations, but found 10 pounds of methamphetamine and an AK rifle in one car, and a smaller amount in the other.
