The Greenville County Museum of Art announced Aug. 25 that the museum’s surrounding green space has been named the Arthur and Holly Magill Campus to honor the couple’s contributions.
GCMA was originally housed in the Gassaway Mansion, when the Magills pledged to contribute $750,000 toward the construction of a new museum, provided Greenville County would match the gift. In April 1974, the museum opened to the public.
Following the sale of their personal collection of Andrew Wyeth works in the early 1990s, the Magills also donated $6 million to GCMA.
“The Magills’ vision and generosity have touched every corner of this museum,” said Tom Styron, director of the Greenville County Museum of Art. “Naming our campus in their honor is a fitting tribute to their remarkable legacy and a celebrat
