MINNEAPOLIS — Minneapolis police are searching for the person or persons responsible for a mass shooting on the near south side of the city Tuesday afternoon that left multiple victims, including one fatality.
Squads were dispatched to 2940 Clinton Ave. around 1:30 p.m. According to MPD, seven people were shot and one person died. Police Chief Brian O'Hara said the other six victims are expected to survive.
On Thursday, the man who died was identified as 35-year-old Gregory Doyle Sweeten of Minneapolis. An autopsy by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office says he died of a gunshot wound to the head.
O'Hara said the shooter, who fled the scene by vehicle, used a high-velocity .223 rifle, and that the damage done to the victims was "unspeakable."
