A man has been arrested after allegedly restraining a passenger to the backseat of a vehicle and evading police officers in a town south of Calgary.

On August 24, Piikani Nation RCMP attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a white Hyundai Santa Fe which was seen driving dangerously leaving a gas station in Brocket. The vehicle fled at a high rate of speed eastbound on Highway 3, nearly causing multiple collisions with innocent members of the public in other vehicles.

Piikani Nation RCMP disengaged due to the public safety risk and returned to the gas station to review surveillance footage. While reviewing the footage, the RCMP identified the driver and learned that he had allegedly appeared to assault a male passenger and restrict him to the back seat of the vehicle before driving off.
