KNOX COUNTY, Tenn. (WATE) — The Knox County Sheriff's Office is using 3D scan technology to document crime scenes. Investigators and crime scene technicians were able to learn how the technology works during a mock crime scene training session on Tuesday.
A scenario to represent a home invasion was set up at a house. It included things like blood spatters, a dummy suspect, fake weapons and evidence markers. Deputy Glenn Simerly explained what the scenario showed.
"A person has tried to enter a residence that was occupied by someone else, the resident saw them, confronted them, the suspect person pulled out a weapon and fired a shot at the homeowner and the homeowner returned fire and the suspect was injured," he said.
The 3D scanner comes from a Florida-based company called FARO Technol
