KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Efforts to identify a woman whose skeletal remains were found near what used to be a hotel in Knoxville earlier this year have been unsuccessful, but investigators are hoping an open missing person case or DNA could eventually help them find answers.

On the afternoon of March 14, 2025, Knoxville Police officers responded to the 300 block of Merchant Drive. A Knoxville Police spokesperson said officers arrived around 2:15 p.m. that day after a clean-up crew found skeletal remains in a creek drainage area amongst mud and debris.

The area where the body was found is behind Second Creek Studios, a housing complex at the site of what used to be an America's Best Value Inn & Suites, Knoxville police said. According to a social media post made by the Knoxville Chamber,
